The Junkies' melancholic mixture of blues, country, folk, rock and jazz styles
brought them both a cult following and critical notice in the late 1980s.
Their best-selling album,
Trinity Session,
sold more than 1.5 million copies internationally. Featuring five original
compositions and a variety of songs previously made famous by other recording
artists such as Hank Williams's 'I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry,' Patsy Cline's
'Walking After Midnight' and a version of Lou Reed's 'Sweet Jane' (Velvet Underground),
in the US, the album was praised by reviewers and received extensive
radio and video airplay - and was voted one of the ten best albums
of 1988.

At first glance, Lesley Pike looks nothing like a classically trained musician. Taking the stage at Revival nightclub in Toronto, Pike’s strapless red taffeta dress, blonde bob and 5 inch pumps suggest a glamorous, old Hollywood star quality. Her stage repartee is clever and cunning enough to keep even the most cynical of audiences engaged and chuckling between songs. Unfaltering strength and lyrical prowess have audiences cheering for her like a local sports hero by shows’ end. |
